Four laning of Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif section in Bihar

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the project for the development of four laning of 93 kms. (approximately) long Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif section on National Highway-82 in Bihar. 

The total project cost is estimated at Rs.1408.85 crore including Rs.1216.16 crore as civil construction and supervision works and Rs.192.69 crore as the cost of land acquisition, rehabilitation and pre construction activities. 

The project will be completed within three years of signing of the contract agreement. 

The project connects Nalanda, where the ancient set of learning popularly called as Nalanda University. The place is visited conjointly by the tourists who visit Bodh Gaya.

 The road shall also connect Rajgir, where Vishwa Shanti Stupa or Japanese Pagoda is a major tourist attraction. Rajgir is also a popular pilgrim destination for Buddhists. 

The project shall also facilitate Gaya to develop as a regional service centres with quality physical and social infrastructure for its citizen and as a pilgrimage and leisure destination for visiting tourists with thriving sustained economy. 

With upgradation to 4-lane by improvement of geometrics and strengthening overlays in addition to providing bypasses to the built up areas, smooth and safe traffic flow and substantial economic gain (in terms of reduced Vehicle Operating Costs and reduced travel time) would be achieved. Improved road connectivity is also expected to bring in overall economic growth of the region it serves. 

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to provide loan assistance with 100 percent financing for civil construction and supervision works for the implementation of four laning of NH-82 (Section: Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif).
