Red Crescent Leaders Call on Shri Azad

A high level delegation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement today called upon the Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad. The delegation led by Secretary General of Indian Red Cross Society Dr S P Agrawal and comprising Members of Red Crescents of Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey had Mr. Jagan Chapagain, Under Secretary General, International Federation of Red Cross and red Crescent, Geneva; Mr. Ibrahim Osman, Director, IFRC, Middle East & North Africa; Mr. Azmat Ullah, South Asia Regional Delegation, IFRC; Mr. John Roche, Head India Office IFRC and other senior representatives of governance and management from Turkish, Iranian, Qatar and Saudi Arabia Red Crescent Societies. The Turkish delegation consisted of Mr. Ahmet Lutfi Akar, President, Ms. Deniz Solen, Coordinator of Governance services & International Relations, Mr. Bayram Selvi, Deputy Head of International Relations. The Iranian Red Crescent was represented by Mr. Mohammad Shahabeddin Mohammadi Araghi, Director General International Affairs and the Qatar Red Crescent was represented by Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations. 

Welcoming the delegation Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad observed that this is the first time that members of the Red Cross Movement from Turkey, Iran and Qatar have visited Indian Red Cross to explore avenues of mutual cooperation. He added that some of the disasters, such as earthquake and public health related issues are common to all of us. Shri Azad said efforts at encouraging blood donation should continue as requirement is ever increasing. Shri Azad desired that more mutual visits should take place in future that would result into greater cooperation and joint disaster response exercises.
